Dear Students,

I know you will be keeping up to date with the news as it unfolds.  Beware of fake news stories designed to cause panic.  The BBC is probably the most reliable source of reporting in UK.
At the time of writing I can  confirm that there are no known cases of coronavirus among either staff or students.   Indeed the number of cases in UK is still relatively small compared to the population. In our county of Hampshire there are 13 reported cases among a population of almost 2 million. There are no reported cases in Southampton.  We can expect this to increase.  The government expects the virus to peak over the next 2-3 weeks. It appears that China has passed its peak and is returning to normality. So, there is an end to it!
As the number of cases rise, we can expect government to introduce various measures of containment such as banning large gatherings and public and sporting events.  This may include closing schools & universities.  If Lewis School is forced to close, then we will deliver our lessons online to you.  Teachers are currently preparing for this.
Until then there is no reason why you should not continue to attend your classes as normal. Please follow the guidance on hygiene by washing your hands frequently.  If you are worried about your own health, please let us know and we will advise you on the next step.
Best Wishes
Alistair Walker
