Michael Shepherd

TEACHER

Hi. My name’s Mike.
I’ve been teaching at Lewis School full-time since March 2019. I was born in Southampton and my family is from the beautiful New Forest which is only a few miles away.

I started teaching English when I moved to Kobe, Japan in 1999. I was lucky to get experience in teaching a wide variety of classes from young kids, junior high school students, exam preparation to seniors. After a while, I moved into Business English and consultation mostly with engineering companies like Kawasaki, Mitsubishi and Sumitomo as well as smaller precision engineering copies as an advisor. I left Japan in 2014 and moved to London where I worked at a language school for four years where I helped working people improve their English and prospects. This included a lot of students who needed good IELTS scores to get jobs and enter university. In 2018, I worked in Arequipa, Peru. That was a completely different experience! I learned a lot about a different culture and also about myself! I then returned to my hometown and I’m so happy to be back.

All my life I’ve always been involved in music. Either collecting records or performing. I used to play in bands and tour as well as DJ at various events, which I still do from time to time. My other passion is travel. I’ve been very fortunate to have travelled all over the world, including travelling from Japan to Europe by train and ship.
