English & Theatre offers a fantastic mix of English lessons and performing arts workshops, developing your confidence with language both inside and outside the classroom.

* The age range is 11-17. However, we may occasionally accept a younger or older student from the same school year as someone else in the group.

15 hours of lesson per week

Lessons are enjoyable and fast-paced, and are designed to build your confidence with spoken English. Our syllabus is specially designed for students aged 11-17. Topics and language points change on a weekly basis, meaning you can start and finish your course any week. Classwork also links with trips and other cultural activities on your programme. Lessons may alternate between morning and afternoon on a weekly basis – see your centre timetable for details.

Students’ Course Objectives

To develop your confidence in communicating in English,
To improve your skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation
To learn about British culture, particularly in relation to trips and other events on your activities programme
To develop your soft skills such as problem-solving, leadership and teamwork
To showcase what you have learnt through weekly projects

(*) The maximum number of students per class is generally 15. However, at peak times, we reserve the right to increase this to 18 per class.

9 hours of performing arts activities per week

Develops acting, singing and dancing skills

Our fun and energetic theatre workshops will develop your skills as a singer, dancer and actor. You’ll learn how to warm up the voice and body, how to improve pronunciation and diction, and how to bring a text to life.
Over the two week course you will explore the music, words and stories of well-known West End musicals: Matilda, The Lion King, Wicked and School of Rock.
At the end of your course, you will have the opportunity to perform some of the work that you have created to your peers either live or filmed.
You are sure to find that theatre is both highly enjoyable and highly beneficial for your English.
We can’t wait to give you an unforgettable experience!

Aims of the theatre component:

To develop your confidence with speaking in English

To improve your pronunciation, especially intonation

To develop your performance skills such as voice projection, characterisation, body language and improvisation

To develop your soft skills, such as teamwork, creativity and problem-solving

To learn and act out a script in English

1 full-day trip per week

1 half-day trip per week

Variety of daytime and evening activities

On our fun-filled activities programme you will discover some of the top tourist destinations in the UK, such as London, Oxford and Bath (see your centre timetable for trip destinations). You will also take part in a wide variety of other activities such as discos, parties, sports and creative workshops. Many have a learning element and all are designed to help you make friends and activate your English.

As well as being great fun, theatre is an ideal way to improve your English. Take a look at our students performing an adaptation of The Lion King.
