Discover Bath

The beautiful and compact city of Bath is set among the rolling hills of the Avon Valley, and wherever you walk you can enjoy views of the surrounding countryside.
Bath is named after the Roman Baths, which are located in the heart of the city next to the medieval abbey.
The Romans built the baths in AD43 around the main hot spring and used the waters for cleansing, healing and worship. Most of the stunning architecture in Bath comes from the Georgian period of the 18th and early 19th centuries.
One of Bath’s most famous residents in this period was Jane Austen, who wrote many famous novels such as Pride and Prejudice – you may have seen the film!

Although small, Bath is full of life and culture.

Street musicians play in the abbey square, boat trips take visitors along the river, and tourists can enjoy the excellent shops, museums and restaurants, or relax in the beautiful parks. It’s easy to see why Bath is one of Britain’s best-loved cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
