Welcome to Bristol
Bristol is rich in history, but is also a modern and vibrant city, and the biggest in South-West England.
The city centre combines the historic charm of the old city with its medieval churches, castle ruins and bustling farmers markets with Bristol’s main retail area.
It has been a port for a thousand years, and is home to many works of the great 19th-century engineer, Brunel. These include the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the ship SS Great Britain.
Bristol is full of culture
See how people lived through time, what they wore, the toys they played with and how they managed their household chores at Blaise Castle House Museum.
Visit the Bristol Cathedral located on College Green. In addition to the beautiful architectural features, the Church of England cathedral contains several memorials and a historic organ.
Bristol is also famous for being the city where Concorde was designed and built, and as the home of animation stars Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep.
There is a vibrant harbour with attractions like the interactive science centre “At-Bristol” and if you are lucky enough to be in the city in August, you could see Europe’s largest hot air balloon festival.

Nightlife in Bristol is legendary. Trendy underground bars, indie hangouts and dance clubs here are celebrated all over the UK.
The city is also famous for its musical diversity: be it grime, grunge or eclectic jazz.
