Christmas is our biggest festival here in the UK, and that means there are lots of new words to learn!
That’s because there are customs, food, decorations and religious traditions that you won’t see at any other time of the year. So, if you fancy learning some Christmas vocabulary, here are some useful links for you.
Here’s a nice ‘picture dictionary’ of Christmas words at Canva.com.
See pictures, listen to the pronunciation of words, and practise with quizzes at these links from the British Council’s Learn English website:

Here’s a cute, 2-minute animated film with a quiz where you can practise your Christmas vocabulary.
Ask friends here in the UK what traditions we have at Christmas (or ask Google or AI!) and you might be surprised at the answer!
So to finish, here’s a humorous video that tells you 10 differences between and British and an American Christmas. After you watch, you can test your understanding with a quiz and review the vocabulary. Good luck and have a very merry Christmas!
