We’re proud to announce the launch of a brand-new website full of teaching resources, EnglishCuppa.uk, which we created in partnership with Thailand TESOL. Aimed at primary school English teachers in Thailand, the site provides original lesson plans, downloadable worksheets and editable templates – all made by our inventive team of teachers!
About the Project
The work was supported and funded by the British Council, IATEFL and English UK as part of PRELIM3 (Partnered Remote Language Improvement Project). As with the other participating schools, we were partnered with a national association of English language teachers (in our case, Thailand), and were given the task of creating a set of resources for teachers.
We spoke to a focus group of teachers in Thailand and it was decided to produce a resource package aimed at Years 4-6. The group felt there were three main types of materials that teachers needed more access to – reading texts, pronunciation tasks and communication activities.
The English Cuppa Website
We also aimed to create a product that could evolve and be self-sustaining beyond the project lifecycle. As a result, we created an interactive website where users can log in, rate and review materials, save favourites, and also share ideas to help and inspire other English Cuppa users. In a section humorously called the ‘CommuniTea’, teachers can upload materials they have created themselves using the editable and adaptable worksheet templates provided.
There are already nearly 600 registered users in the English Cuppa community following its launch at the Thailand TESOL conference, and feedback has been very positive. Supranee from Thailand commented, “I think English Cuppa is a playground for me… I think your template makes me create more and more materials with the right directions.”
Meet the Teachers!
In the video below (from 5:36), you can see our teachers introducing themselves and some of the teaching materials they created.
As you can see, we’re a creative bunch! You may also know that our teachers create a lot of their own classroom materials. We also have our own specially designed syllabuses for our adult, junior and teacher training programmes!
