Theatre Express

English & the Arts Worldwide!

Our school specialises in using performing arts skills and techniques to enhance your English language learning experience. Whether you are a school putting on a theatre show, a language centre running a drama or filmmaking project or a business looking for a fun team-building programme, we have the course for you!

By taking language learning out of the traditional classroom, students are refocused and engaged, and in turn flourish within this innovative method of learning. Our projects enable students to develop their vocabulary, pronunciation, and delivery of English. They also improve their ability to express themselves, learn how to project their voices and develop their skills in verbal and nonverbal communication. In addition to their language learning our students enhance their performance techniques, with everyone becoming stars!

Each project we provide is tailor-made for your school or company’s needs.

Classic Programme

  • Tailor-made projects

  • Work toward a final show

  • Choose from musicals, Shakespeare, horror, fairytales and more!

  • Ages 1-4 weeks

The performing arts are an excellent tool for allowing students to express themselves, develop their critical thinking skills, enhance self-confidence and improve the life skill of improvisation. When working on a piece of theatre, students are exposed to various situations, cultures and experiences which enable them to grow not only as performers but also as individuals. Working towards a theatrical performance requires discipline, commitment and teamwork, all of which will help your students with their ongoing development.

Throughout the project your students will be exposed to various performance based skills including but not limited to: storytelling, speech exercises, expressive poetry, characterisation, dance and movement, singing and music exploration, working from stimuli and creating an original story. At the end of each project family and friends will be invited to attend a performance evening to see all that your students have achieved.

As all of our projects are created for you, we can accommodate students of varying ages and language abilities.

Cinema Express

  • Tailor-made projects

  • 1-4 weeks

  • Ages 11-17

  • We come to you!

Cinema Express provides an interesting and creative environment to learn and improve language and communication skills, develop teamwork and build confidence, whilst also developing individual artistry. Through the process of making a short film, students will be led and empowered by their teacher to generate storylines, create a film script, experience the various roles of filmmaking, work as a team to shoot their own film and attend the premiere! Practice English in a fun, exciting way as you create your own film!

Our projects offer a comprehensive introduction into the world of filmmaking using terminology at an English level that is suitable for your students.

Our Film Screening Premiere offers a unique opportunity to see your students on the big screen! In addition to showcasing the short film at the premiere, students will have an opportunity to explain to the audience the filmmaking process, presenting the journey from paper to film, the roles they experienced throughout the week and what they have learnt and achieved.

We work at providing an environment of language exploration and development as well as a course structure that is as close to the process of film production as possible, providing an enganging and educational experience for your students, from the initial idea to the final outcome.

School Productions

  • Any age

  • Any language level

  • Any number of students

  • We come to you!

Our School Productions are designed for success and ease, with everyone given a chance to shine. A lead cast will hold the essence of the story allowing for younger students to provide supporting roles. The school will be split into groups so that each student has adequate time with their performing arts teacher to learn the story and their individual role. Sessions will be spent working on characterisation, learning songs, performing dance routines, developing theatre techniques and stage acting. Structured rehearsals, repetition, ongoing support and guidance will ensure that students feel empowered and confident performing on stage together in English. Scripts are created based on the ages, interests and language levels of your students. We can create an adaptation of a well-known story, or something completely original. We can follow your curriculum to help students bring their classroom learning to the stage!

Taking part in a school production offers a unique learning experience for students to practice their English and work as a team towards a common goal. Throughout the project students will develop and improve their:

• Language and speech skills
• Self-discipline
• Empathy for others
• Teamwork
• Confidence
• Self-expression

English and Drama Camp

  • English lessons with our expert teachers

  • Performing arts tuition with our experienced facilitators

  • Work towards a final show

  • Any number of weeks

  • Ages 11-17

  • We come to you!

English & Drama Camp combines the strengths of two Lewis School services – English Courses in Your Country (expert language teachers) and Theatre Express (specialists in performing arts for English language learners). These two services work in unison to create a memorable learning experience for students, but perhaps even more importantly a quality-orientated and action-packed learning environment that develops all the skills required to learn and practise a language successfully and expressively. English lessons and the performing arts is a powerful combination!

Each day of the course is divided into two parts. Our language experts deliver interactive lessons in class and then hand over to our performing arts specialists, who transform that language into practice – performance on stage. This course motivates and inspires language learners, while also working on other key skills. Our English and Drama camp takes students from classroom to stage, which they love!
